Math Dept. Chair Ruggie Named 'Outstanding Educator'

Upper school Math Department Chair Mr. Mike Ruggie was selected for the University of Chicago’s Outstanding Educator Award. The distinguished award, which has existed for more than three decades, recognizes educators whose guidance has impacted students accepted into the University of Chicago.

Students accepted into this year’s class were asked to nominate an educator who has positively impacted their lives.

The criteria set by the University for an Outstanding Educator is one who “shapes young minds in meaningful ways - thoughtfully approaching instruction, sharing an infectious love of learning, and caring for students both inside and outside of the classroom.”

“The University of Chicago is honored to recognize excellence in teaching and sincerely congratulates this year’s Outstanding Educator Award winners, who are exceptional in their field and role models for all students,” the University said in a press release.

The University will host a virtual event celebrating this year’s winners on Monday, October 25 at 7 p.m. CDT. All award winners will receive a commemorative award, certificate, and letter that includes details from the student they were nominated by.
