Upper School Hosts 5th Annual Holiday Assembly

Upper school students and faculty members shared their holiday traditions and memories during the 5th annual Holiday Assembly in Benjamin Hall. Program host and Student Council President Sydney Steinger said it was amazing to have everyone together in the same space in time for the holidays.

Head of Upper School Fletcher Carr said the season is a reminder that it is greater to give than to receive.

“Let that be a lesson as we move forward,” said Carr. “When you get a gift you love, or even more so one you don’t love, take a moment to sincerely acknowledge the fact that another person thought about you and took the time and tried to make you happy and then thank the heck out of them because gratitude is right up there with giving as a healthy lifelong habit.”

Carr thanked upper school performing artists, including the Dazzlers dance team, chorus, band, and soloist Emma Hardyman for sharing their gifts and talents with the School community.

“Continue to share and give of yourself this season and all seasons,” said Carr.

Ella Pierman shared her British Christmas traditions from leaving mince pie out for Father Christmas to Christmas crackers and Boxing Day celebrations. English Department Chair Sharon Wendler and Social Studies teacher Mr. Nick Cramer also shared their Christmas traditions and memories with the upper school audience.

Cramer said what he likes the most about the holiday is that “people tend to be there a little more for each other than they usually are.”

“I cherish the time I get to spend with my family, friends, and fiance. It’s also a great time to reach out to those who may be down on their luck and having a hard time,” said Cramer.

Brothers Leo and Hudson Byrne shared their Hanukkah traditions and Victoria Powell and Micah Mays shared their Kwanzaa traditions.
