Senior Class Honored During School's 44th Commencement Ceremony

Members of the Class of 2022 were honored for a tremendous four years of achievements and personal growth during commencement the evening of May 20.

Student Council President Sydney Steinger opened the school’s 44th commencement ceremony with a speech about the senior class and their ability to come together and cheer on one another’s accomplishments.

“Benjamin and what it stands for is created, more than anything else, by the students and teachers in the school - those who truly love what they do,” said Steinger who encouraged her peers to spend time tending to what is most significant - life’s relationships.

Head of School Mr. Dave Faus spoke to the audience of proud parents, grandparents, family members and friends about what an extraordinary year it was to be a Buc.

“Time and time again you have demonstrated that the gratification earned from working hard, working together, and working for something larger than oneself is priceless,” Faus told the Senior class.

“Continue to build on the friendships you have developed during your time here . . . we, the collective Benjamin we, care about you,” said Faus.

Seniors also heard from Chairman of the Board Mr. Darren Lowe, who recognized that it takes a community to reach seminal moments like graduation.

“Thank you,” Lowe told the audience, “for being willing partners and sharing each of your children with us. You have raised the bar and ceiling of possibilities here.”

Upper School Academic Dean Caroline Guzman presented Academic Awards to Co-Valedictorians Gerald Bissell and Grady Wolf and Salutatorian Jake Zur. Head of Lower School Dr. Kristen Sheehan and Head of Middle School Chuck Hagy presented the Founders’ Cup Awards to Ryan Riutta and Emeline Smith. The Founders' Cup recognizes two seniors who “exemplify the very best of what it means to be a member of the Benjamin community and who have lived the ideals the Benjamins envisioned when they started the school.”

Head of Upper School Fletcher Carr awarded diplomas to each member of the senior class before they took one final ceremonial stride across the stage in Benjamin Hall.
