Dear Benjamin School Families,
As the day approaches, and we are receiving more information regarding the Solar Eclipse, The Benjamin School has decided that it is in the best interest of our students to close the Lower, Middle and Upper Campuses at 12:00 p.m. on August 21, 2017. As you know, the highest potential for damage to vision will occur between 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. on Monday, thus our regular pick-up times would place children at serious risk.
This decision was made with the safety and well being of our students and staff at the forefront. While this is a once-in-a-lifetime event, the risk involved in viewing the Eclipse, causing potential vision impairment, is too great for us to relax our most conservative caution. Since the Eclipse will occur during the regularly scheduled dismissal time for our students, we believe exercising the greatest amount of care by releasing school early is the most prudent decision we can make.
All sports practices and after-school activities including ACE on the Lower/Middle School Campus are cancelled on August 21, 2017. The Upper School administration will contact Upper School families about sports and activities after 4:00 p.m. that day.
Please be aware of the safety requirements for viewing the eclipse. The site below from NASA has some excellent information:
Our goal for our students and their families is that this event be a safe and educational one for all.
