US Theatre Director Nominated for Prestigious 'Carbonell' Award

Benjamin Upper School Theatre Director Jason Peck has been nominated for a Carbonell Award for Outstanding Direction of a Play for his work on All My Sons with New City Players in Fort Lauderdale.

The Carbonell Awards, often referred to as “Tony Awards of South Florida,” celebrate excellence in professional theatre across the region. This year’s nominees include Pulitzer, Tony, and Obie Award–winning directors, making Peck’s inclusion a noteworthy recognition.

“For me, it’s an honor just to have my name listed alongside these incredible artists,” Peck said. “I don’t expect to win, but the recognition is meaningful. It’s also a reminder that our teaching artists are still actively practicing their craft, which I hope ultimately enriches what we bring back into the classroom.”

Peck, who has led Benjamin’s Upper School theatre program for six years, is known for inspiring students both on stage and behind-the-scenes. His nomination highlights the professional excellence he continues to bring to the upper school.

The Carbonell Awards ceremony will be held later this fall, celebrating the best in South Florida theatre.
