Boys, Girls Track Teams Win Historic 1st Places at Regionals
Barrett Saunders, Varsity Track & Field Coach
In a historic milestone for our school, both the girls' and boys' teams won first place at the Regional Championship meet in the same season for the very first time. This victory marks the boys' fourth consecutive regional championship, while the girls are celebrating their second regional title in school history after finishing as the runner-up last year!
The day was filled with stunning performances, highlighted by record-breaking feats. Julian Luiz showcased his incredible talent by shattering the school record in the 400 hurdles with a breathtaking time of 53.42 seconds. Mike Winfield electrified the crowd by breaking the school record in the 200 meters, clocking in at an impressive 21.73 seconds. In a thrilling display of speed and teamwork, our girls’ 4x100 relay team, comprised of Maxine Dalton, Kamori Reddick, Andrea Arendts, and Akari Marshall, also made history by setting a new school record at 48.43 seconds. In addition to these standout performances, many athletes achieved personal bests throughout the day, further demonstrating their dedication and hard work.
I am proud to announce that over 40 of our athletes have qualified for the upcoming State Championship meet this Saturday. We are hopeful to win both the boys' and girls' state championships. What fills me with the greatest pride, however, is witnessing the genuine camaraderie and teamwork these young athletes demonstrate. Regardless of their individual achievements, they consistently display grace and sportsmanship, earning praise from other coaches and parents alike. Their character and composure, both on and off the field, reflect the values we cherish at Benjamin.
