Benjineers Capture First Place Finish

Upper school engineering club The Benjineers secured a first place finish in  the Ten80 Miami Spring InvitationalThe team showcased their engineering enterprise and robotics skills at the competition held March 7 in Miami. Patrick Cullinane, faculty advisor to the Benjineers, said the day was filled with highs and lows after the team’s cars kept breaking and they were docked with a five minute penalty in a 10 minute race.

“As the day progressed the stress piled up like quicksand,” Cullinane said. “But has the coaches were ready to toss in the towel the kids rallied a comeback.”

The Benjineers took home a 6th place finish in the 10 minute race, 4th place in the drag race and 3rd place in the endurance race to finish the day. The team took home 1st place trophies for data driven design and the business team. All the scores combined led the Benjineers to another first place finish.

The team will compete in the national competition at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY on April 28 through May 1.
