MS Students Chosen To Attend STEAM Academy

Middle School students Ellie Bickel and Addie Vining were chosen to attend the Girls Leadership Institute and STEAM Academy at Palm Beach State College on October 14. Admission to the event, run through the Women’s Foundation of Florida, is highly competitive. Bickel and Vining were chosen out of hundreds of applicants to represent The Benjamin School at the event. The two students spent the day with women scientists and researchers from Scripps, Manatee Lagoon, FPL and the Society of Women Engineers conducting STEAM activities and discussing the challenges that women face while pursuing STEM careers.

"We are so proud of these young ladies for being chosen to attend the STEAM Academy. It is especially important that we encourage our best and brighest young women in the STEAM fields," said Head of Middle School Chuck Hagy.

The program, held in Belle Glade, aims to empower middle and high school girls to be leaders in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.
