US Newspaper Wins Multiple Sun Sentinel Journalism Awards

The staff of the upper school newspaper The Pharcyde and its companion website, ThePharcyte.com, earned multiple honors in the 2026 Sun Sentinel High School Journalism Awards, receiving recognition across several categories for reporting, commentary, and design.

In the Features: Entertainment/Reviews category, Isabelle Anthon earned third place for her work. Haley Roth received second place in Opinion/Commentary, while Chase Zur was awarded an honorable mention in Layout-Design.

The publication itself also received an honorable mention in the Best Overall category. The recognition honored the newspaper’s five-member staff: Haley Roth, Reid Waxman, Chase Zur, Isabelle Anthon, and Annabel Brown, for the two print issues of The Pharcyde submitted from the first semester.

Despite its small staff, helmed by faculty advisor John Peruggia, The Pharcyde continues to make an outsized impact through student journalism, showcasing strong writing, thoughtful commentary, and creative visual design. The annual Sun Sentinel contest recognizes outstanding high school journalism programs and student journalists from across South Florida.

The full list of winners can be found on the Sun Sentinel website.
