LS Student Selected For National Juried Art Competition

Second grade student Stella McCully’s favorite day of the week is Wednesday - art day.

“Whether it’s hand building with clay, drawing, painting, jewelry making, origami, or teaching herself how to use a loom - she truly loves to create, whatever the medium,” said mom Lauren.

McCully’s love for art recently landed her an official selection as an entry for The National K-12 Ceramic Exhibition’s 2022 competition.

“Stella created her sculpture this past summer in Connecticut during a week-long intensive ceramic hand building camp at The Village Center for the Arts. The piece ‘Summer Flies By,’ is the culmination of many, many, hours of focused work,” said Lauren.

Art teacher and mentor Ro Sammis said Stella is a kind and talented young artist who has a creative vision for each of her projects.

“She is detailed and she is always enthusiastic! I am thrilled to see that she is encouraged to practice creating not only here at The Benjamin School but also at her home studio,” said Sammis.

Stella will return to VCA again this summer and has been invited to attend the prestigious Interlochen Arts Camp in Michigan.

“We can’t wait to see what she creates,” said Lauren.
